IMS products for 17 HMR/ 22 Win Mag Rim-fires
Calibres To Suit: .22 long rifle and now the 17 HMR and the 22 Win Mag
Integrated Moderating System (IMS) by MAE
-Rim-fire Range-
The MAE Integrated Moderating Systems (IMS) are designed to fit, bolt-action, semi-automatic and break-action rifles.
The IMS design incorporates a slim 22mm diameter stainless steel moderator; the original stock is modified to suit, giving a clean-looking rifle with smooth lines.
The rifle barrel is shortened keeping within the minimum legal lengths; the barrel is then machined down to reduce weight.
For 17 HMR/ 22 Win Mag Conversions:
Please note: The 17 HMR and the 22 Win Mag barrels are not turned down, and are not ported. There are 2x barrel lengths we produce, 16” (406.4mm) and 19” (482.6mm)
The stocks are machined to accept the 1” (25.4mm) diameter moderator tube. There is 1x “O” ring groove machined into the parallel reinforcement of the barrel, this creates a sealed section for the moderator. The gases produced from combustion exhaust directly onto the exterior of the barrel allowing for rapid expansion and cooling, reducing the energy of the pressure wave.
The velocity of the projectile is not reduced in any way. Our tests have found velocity and energy to increase up to 2-3%.
Cleaning procedures: Warning! Ensure that the firearm is unloaded, removing the magazine and breech bolt. Remove the king screws lifting out the barrelled action from the stock,
Unwind the moderator tube (anti-clockwise) for approx 13mm then carefully slide the moderator of the barrel.
We recommend the use of a good solvent, we use Witches Brew. Apply this to the barrel and leave for several minutes to soak and then wipe clean, use an old tooth brush to remove residue from the engraved areas on the barrel.
Using a seal pick remove the “O” ring and clean and inspect it, there must be no nicks, cuts or tears. If the “O” ring is damaged (Do Not Re-use!) we reccommend it be replaced immediately. Contact us .
Apply a light film of grease to the “O” ring and the groove on the barrel, then carefully slide the “O” ring over the barrel and into the groove.
Once the barrel exterior has been cleaned thoroughly, we recommend that a light film of grease, Vaseline (petrolium Gel) be smeared over the exterior of the barrel. This will make the cleaning process easier, also minimising corrosion.
Apply a nickel based grease (Not Copper Coat) on the muzzle thread of the barrel, this will allow for ease of assembly and removal of the moderator, and prevent gawling.
Important: Do not get any grease into the barrel, as a projectile colliding with this obstruction will result in a bulge in the bore.
To clean the moderator: We recommend that the rear of the moderator tube which seals over the “O” ring be wiped clean using a solvent soaked cloth. Clean approx 2-3” (50.8- 76.2mm) ensuring that all powder residue is removed, leaving the tube clean. Using your fingers smear a light film of grease into this section. This will lube the “O” ring and allow it to seal against the internal wall of the tube.
Conversions to suit the following rifle makes:
CZ 452/ 455, Marlin , Ruger M77/ 17, Savage R93 17
For 22 Long rifle Conversions:
The barrel is ported near the breech, which aids to bleed off a percentage of the energy produced and to reduce the sound signature, with no compromise on accuracy.
The moderator is designed to be disassembled for cleaning, as the use of rim-fire ammunition results in heavy build-up of residue within the moderator.
The internals of the moderator are easily accessible by unscrewing the front cap and, once removed, the outer tube then can be unwound allowing ease of removal of the internal components.
The moderator is manufactured entirely from 304L stainless steel, which offers high corrosion resistance with high strength and durability, yet still retaining a good weight distribution and balance.
This model is designed to take high velocity ammunition- this is generally the most common ammunition being readily available nationwide, with some brands being cheaper than the subsonic type.
It has also been designed for semi-automatics where some makes may not cycle subsonic ammunition reliably. The design reduces the sound signature to that of subsonic yet still having sufficient energy is operate the blow-back system.
Conversions to suit the following rifle makes:
CZ 452-2E, Marlin model 980S, Ruger 10/22, Ruger 94/22 WM, Savage MKII, Savage 93R 17, CZ 455 17 HMR
